  • What are my rights under the Good Faith / "No Surprises" Act?
As of January 1, 2022 what's commonly referred to as the No Surprises Act protects you from "surprise" medical bills. Under the law, health care providers in the U.S. have to give patients who don't have insurance, or who are not using insurance, a written estimate of the cost of non-emergency health care services, including mental health care. Here's what that means for you: You can also ask me -- and any other health care provider you choose -- for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Before we meet for our first therapy appointment together, I will provide a Good Faith Estimate for the expected cost of services. Be sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. If you have questions or need more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, call me at 503-908-2708 or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers.
